Southwest Academy offers a science and engineering magnet. In 6th and 7th grade, students participate in a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) engineering program . In 8th grade students take Aquatic Science. Students have the opportunity to go to High School with a Science credit if they successfully complete the high school Aquatic Science exam.

Western Tech, with an enrollment of 910 students, is an economically and culturally diverse high school comprised of a non-diploma bound autism program and eleven magnet programs. As a Maryland and National Blue-Ribbon School of Excellence, students demonstrate college and career readiness through off-site internship experiences related to their magnet, parallel enrollment with the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), and participation in College Board’s Advanced Placement program.
